Artist Statement

Anthony Lee’s multi-disciplinary art practice incorporates painting, printmaking, sculpture and textiles. Utilising the cultural landscape as a site of exploration, his works are often characterised by an intricate layering of surface detail. Working at small, medium and large scale, materials often include various found objects, each piece undergoing rigorous experimentation - splicing together elements of repetition, circumstance and decoration.

Found materials are combined with labour intensive craft, alchemically transformed into exquisite statement pieces, as the artist’s hand masterfully re-centres physicality in our hyper-digital world. Lee’s energy and subjectivity is directly embedded in each artwork, where the picture plane reconciles every decision for the viewer, and the final outcome is arrived at rather than determined.
